Sarah Hernandez joins mbue as Principal AI Engineer

Austin, TX – July 7, 2025 – mbue is proud to announce that Sarah Hernandez has joined the team, bringing a decade of experience in machine learning, AI model development, and product innovation to our fast-growing engineering team.

Sarah combines engineering rigor with deep machine learning expertise, and a track record of building AI systems that solve complex, real-world problems fast.

Most recently, she led the development of early detection systems for Listeria, Salmonella, and E. coli in factory wastewater, helping prevent contaminated foods from ever reaching grocery store shelves. Her work turned dense, messy data into powerful early warning tools that can save time, money, and potentially lives.

Before that, she worked at NASA, applying machine learning and engineering insight to some of the most demanding technical environments on (and off) Earth.

Sarah holds a Master of Science in Computer Science with a specialization in Interactive Intelligence from Georgia Tech and a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University. At mbue, she’s putting both degrees to work, blending technical depth with real-world impact in the construction industry. She’s also an active mentor, championing women in engineering and STEM education programs nationwide.

A passionate advocate for responsible, human-centered AI, Sarah will help lead the next chapter of mbue’s product innovation, evolving our Smart Overlays and developing new tools designed for commercial subcontractors.

“We’re solving complex, unglamorous—but critical—problems in construction,” said Jean-Pierre Trou, CEO of mbue. “Sarah brings the technical knowledge, strategic thinking, and builder’s mindset that will help us deliver AI that actually works in the field, not just in theory.”

Welcome, Sarah—we’re excited to build what’s next, together.
